The basketball community was alarmed when news broke that WNBA legend Cappie Pondexter was missing.
Last seen on Monday, the 37-year-old has not been in contact with anyone since then, prompting a police investigation. Adding to the concern, her phone and wallet were discovered at her residence.
The WNBPA, the players association of the league, has shared concerns about Pondexter’s situation.
TMZ Sports later revealed that Pondexter was not missing but had been arrested on a battery charge.
“LAPD informed us that the 37-year-old was arrested and booked for misdemeanor battery on Tuesday. She did not provide her identification, so she was listed as ‘Jane Doe’ and remained in jail until her release on Thursday. Subsequently, it was confirmed that the woman was indeed Pondexter.
Details regarding the incident are unclear, and investigations are ongoing.”
TMZ Sports updated the story stating friends are worried for her safety post-release.
“More concerning news… Cappie’s representative, Chuck Walton, disclosed that she went missing again after her release from police custody in Downtown Los Angeles. Her well-being is a matter of concern to Walton and others close to her.”
Cappie Pondexter, picked second in the 2006 WNBA Draft by the Phoenix Mercury, won WNBA championships in 2007 and 2009 alongside the legendary Diana Taurasi.
