The Georgia State Panthers were supposed to play against Charlotte on Saturday but had to cancel the game because of inaccuracies in the COVID-19 test results they received.
The game should never have been postponed as the COVID-19 tests were misread.
The false results indicated that four people tested positive and contact tracing identified 17 others, including one coach, who needed to quarantine, ESPN reported.
Georgia State Athletic Director, Charlie Cobb, stated, “The lab director informed our medical staff that a human error led to the incorrect test results. Sadly, we could have played the game on Saturday. However, the good news is that there is no outbreak at this time. We appreciate the professionalism displayed by Charlotte’s athletic director, Mike Hill, and Coach Will Healy over the past 48 hours. We are looking forward to hosting East Carolina on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Center Parc Stadium.”
The Panthers, who recently lost in overtime to Louisiana on Sept. 19, are scheduled to play East Carolina at home this coming Saturday.
