Matthew Wolff, despite his limited experience, is currently leading the US Open, with Bryson DeChambeau trailing by two shots in second place. Previous front-runner Patrick Reed has slipped down the leaderboard behind Thomas Pieters from Belgium.

Wolff is looking to emulate Francis Ouimet, the last player to win the US Open in his debut appearance, a remarkable feat achieved 107 years ago. Interestingly, 1913 was also the last time the championship took place in September.

This year’s US Open is only Wolff’s second major appearance, and his first at the tournament. However, the 21-year-old has been impressive at Winged Foot, sinking a birdie on the final hole to maintain his lead.

“I am feeling very confident in every aspect of my game right now,” Wolff stated to reporters. “I won’t overthink it and will just stick to what has been working for me in the last three days. My focus is on enjoying the moment. Golf is just a game.”

Despite the prestige of the US Open, Wolff acknowledged the global challenges, saying, “Even though this is the US Open, there are many other things happening in the world that are impacting us.”
