It’s now 2020 and the Detroit Pistons have finished compensating Josh Smith with millions of dollars.
The former NBA player signed a hefty four-year, $54 million contract in 2013 but was later waived in 2014. During his initial season with the Pistons, Smith maintained an average of 16.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game.
The Pistons decided to employ the stretch provision to let go of Smith, essentially extending the payout period for the remaining two years on his contract to five years, spreading out the approximately $27 million over this timeframe.
After making the final payment of $5.3 million in 2020, the team can now remove him from their financial records for good.
Smith was compensated approximately $26,658,645 to part ways with the team.
