The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement following the confirmation that a fan who attended Thursday night’s game against the Houston Texans had tested positive for COVID-19.

The statement:

“As per the City of Kansas City Health Department’s report, a guest at Thursday night’s game at Arrowhead Stadium has tested positive for COVID-19. We have collaborated closely with Dr. Rex Archer and the Kansas City Health Department to share all relevant data available.

The contact tracing procedures in place, including scanning parking and ticket information, along with video footage review, indicate that the affected individual and their group adhered to mask requirements upon entering the stadium. This approach enabled the team to identify other attendees seated with this individual, service staff who may have interacted with them, and nearby ticket holders during their entry. Upon notification, the Chiefs swiftly identified the other group members and provided detailed entry information to the Health Department. The stadium’s tracing capabilities facilitate outreach to study the guest’s activities before and after the game.

The individual and their group were situated in the lower stadium level. The stadium’s COVID protocol aimed to limit exposure to a single seating zone. All staff who had contact with the positive case were mandated to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including masks. Furthermore, all attendees were required to wear masks inside the stadium.

Adherence to the protocols is crucial for the effectiveness of this plan. We acknowledge the Health Department’s professionalism and commitment and pledge continued support throughout this situation and the season.”

At the game last Thursday against the Texans, the Chiefs hosted nearly 16,000 fans, with 10 of them now advised to quarantine by the Kansas City Health Department.

In Week One, the Chiefs and Jaguars were the only teams with fans present. Four teams will allow fans in attendance for Week Two.
