Reports emerged after Jacob Blake’s shooting that NBA players were considering boycotting the season. However, the league has now backed away from this idea, with former NBA player and current owner of the Charlotte Hornets, Michael Jordan, playing a role in the negotiations.
The situation arose when the Milwaukee Bucks chose not to play their playoff game against the Orlando Magic, fueling speculation that the season might be cut short. There were discussions that the LA Clippers and Lakers had voted to end the season on Wednesday. Nevertheless, following meetings on Thursday morning, ESPN has confirmed that the players have opted to proceed with the playoffs.
According to reports, Jordan communicated with the NBA Players Association to explore ways to ease tensions before formal talks commenced. A source revealed that Jordan was the right person to mediate due to his distinguished playing career and his ownership of a smaller-market team, positioning him with significant credibility among both players and owners.
All NBA games scheduled for Wednesday were called off, in alignment with other sports leagues like the WNBA, MLB, and MLS. The Thursday playoff games were also delayed.
