Dana White has been a long-time advocate of Donald Trump and openly supported the President during the 2016 election. The Trump campaign recently announced that White will be taking on a similar role at the upcoming Republican National Convention.
White is scheduled to deliver his speech on the last day of the convention, Thursday, and will be joined by other non-political figures. Among them are Patricia and Mark McCloskey, the couple from St. Louis known for pointing guns at Black Lives Matter protestors, and Nick Sandmann, the Kentucky student who won lawsuits against the Washington Post and CNN over false allegations from a 2019 incident involving a Native American leader.
Over the past nine months, the UFC President has donated generously to President Trump, including a $1 million contribution to America First Action in November. White also had Trump as a special guest at a UFC event at Madison Square Garden just two weeks prior to that.
The relationship between the UFC and Trump dates back to the early 2000s when the sport was under scrutiny, partly due to criticism from politicians like John McCain who labeled it as “human cockfighting.”
Trump supported the early UFC events by hosting them at his Taj Mahal resort in Atlantic City, which helped elevate the organization’s reputation and contributed to its growth as a business. Almost two decades later, the benefits of that decision are evident.
