The recent matchup between the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers brought a controversial moment as pitcher Joe Kelly threw at Carlos Correa and Alex Bregman. Subsequently, Kelly received an eight-game suspension from Major League Baseball for his actions, which raised many eyebrows given the severity of the penalty.

Being suspended for eight games in a 60-game season is a significant disciplinary action in MLB history. The league justified the punishment by citing Kelly’s previous suspension for a similar incident involving the New York Yankees player Tyler Austin in April 2018.

Paige Spiranac joined the conversation on social media, expressing displeasure at Kelly’s suspension while pointing out the lack of sanctions against Astros players implicated in the cheating scandal. In a tweet, she commented, “I think we can all agree it’s not okay to throw at someone’s head but it’s also not okay to cheat. Suspend one, you have to suspend the other. This is stupid.”

Further elaborating on the issue, Spiranac highlighted the missed opportunity for the league to address the Astros’ cheating scandal effectively. She mentioned, “This wouldn’t even be an issue if the league made an example of the Astros. So it stopped the cheating all together. He was wild that night. I don’t think he deliberately threw at him. Regardless both aren’t okay and should both be handled.”
