Blaydes questioned whether VanZant and Ostovich are in the UFC based on their athletic achievements or just for their sex appeal, as reported by The Sun.
He further added that any true MMA fan would understand that these fighters are on the roster primarily for their appearance rather than their fighting abilities.
In response, VanZant, 26, posted a photo of herself with Ostovich before their match in January 2019.
Captioning the photo, VanZant wrote, “Good thing we’re so pretty. It’s going to make when we punch each other in the face hurt a lot less… but that much HOTTER. #prettyANDstrong.”
Ostovich joined in the comments with a playful response, saying, “Muahahahahahahaha.”
MMA fighter Pearl Gonzalez, also referenced by Blaydes, agreed, stating, “Facts!! Beauty Queens!!!”
Blaydes, 29, took to Facebook to elaborate on his views regarding the matter.
In his message, Blaydes highlighted the dichotomy of female athletes who decry being sexualized by media and fans while simultaneously capitalizing on their looks for endorsements and publicity within the sport.
He expressed his viewpoint on female athletes choosing between earning recognition for their athletic prowess or monetizing their appearance through media ventures and endorsements.
