Roger Goodell will not tolerate public criticism.

In a memo sent to team owners, executives, and coaches on Thursday, Goodell stated that the 2020 NFL Draft would proceed as scheduled despite concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.

The NFL Management Council’s Executive Committee unanimously agreed that the draft should proceed on its planned date. Goodell discussed the matter with various team owners, executives, and coaches, and there was broad support for the decision.

Goodell emphasized the uncertainty of public health conditions and the lack of guarantee that postponing the draft would lead to more favorable conditions. He also highlighted the positive impact the draft could have on teams, fans, and the country.

Additionally, a part of the memo shared by ESPN’s Adam Schefter warned of potential disciplinary action against anyone within the league who publicly criticized the decision to proceed with the draft.

The draft events that were initially scheduled for Las Vegas have been called off. Goodell assured that the draft would be conducted and televised in line with current circumstances, with a focus on ensuring fair competition among all teams. Clubs were advised to plan draft operations outside their facilities with limited personnel and necessary technology resources.

As the U.S. has surpassed other countries in confirmed coronavirus cases, the situation remains fluid.
