Jon Jones made history by successfully defending his light heavyweight title for the 15th time in an intense match on Saturday. The judges’ unanimous decision to award Jones the victory by points was met with disapproval from the audience in attendance.
The judges scored the fight as 48-47, 48-47, 49-46 in favor of Jones, a decision that Reyes openly challenged. Reyes, ranked fourth in the UFC light heavyweight division, expressed his disagreement with the outcome by stating, “I am certain that I won that fight. I exposed Jon Jones’s vulnerabilities and took the fight to him.”
Despite this loss being Reyes’ first, Jones now holds the record for the most UFC title defenses ever.
“I faced some tough hits,” acknowledged Jones post-fight. “It was a hard-fought victory, but a victory nonetheless.”
Reyes came out strong in the opening round, managing to knock down Jones within the first two minutes of the fight. Jones staged a comeback in the second round, delivering a series of impactful punches to Reyes’s head. The tide turned again in the fourth round, with Reyes drawing blood, only for Jones to escalate his aggression in the final round.
