Cleveland Cavaliers head coach John Beilein found himself in hot water following a recent film session where he mentioned that his players were not playing like “a bunch of thugs.”

This statement caused a stir among many individuals.

According to reports from sources within the league, players were taken aback and disturbed by Beilein’s choice of words during the session.

Beilein later clarified his remarks in an interview with ESPN, stating that he actually intended to say “slugs” rather than “thugs.”

In a Twitter post by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Beilein explained, “I didn’t realize that I had said the word ‘thugs,’ but my staff told me later I did and so I must have said it. I meant to say slugs, as in slow moving. We weren’t playing hard before, and now we were playing harder. I meant it as a compliment. That’s what I was trying to say. I’ve already talked to eight of my players tonight, and they are telling me that they understand.”

Beilein joined the Cavs in May 2019 on a 5-year coaching contract.

The Cleveland Cavaliers currently hold a record of 10-27 and are on a 5-game losing streak.
