The highly anticipated Joshua versus Ruiz match from half a year ago has made a significant impact on the boxing world. However, new concerns have arisen about the safety of boxers after Joshua disclosed that he continued to fight despite having a concussion.

Joshua admitted to being concussed after Ruiz managed to knock him down in the third round. He soldiered on until the seventh round, enduring three more knockdowns before the referee, Michael Griffin, decided to end the fight.

Following Joshua’s revelation about his concussion, criticism was aimed at his coach, Robert McCracken, who acknowledged that he was aware of Joshua’s condition. Luke Griggs, the deputy chief executive of the charity Headway, criticized McCracken, suggesting that his focus was on winning the fight rather than safeguarding the boxer from potential life-threatening injuries.

In response to the backlash, McCracken, a former boxer from the 1990s, mentioned, “I am not a doctor, and perhaps ‘concussed’ was not the appropriate term to use.”
