The MLB sent out a memo last Monday warning players of the dangers of over-the-counter sexual enhancement drugs. An ESPN report published that Wednesday detailed their concerns.

The report suggested that at least 2 athletes attribute their failed drug test results to unregulated substances. The fear is that banned drugs can be lurking in these enhancers, but are not necessarily recorded on the label.

Players can face bans or penalties even if they ingest these illegal substances inadvertently.

“We know from experience that a number of these sexual or male enhancement products… contain anabolic steroids and other prohibited substances,” the report said.

Unregulated sexual performance drugs are sold online as well as being frequently purchased in gas stations.

The MLB has stated players who “suffer from erectile dysfunction and other legitimate issues… speak to a licenced physician about the various prescription medications.”
