Samantha Cerio Requests End to Sharing Injured Videos

Samantha Cerio has asked people to refrain from sharing videos of her injury on social media, which depict her knees and legs bending abnormally. The injury occurred during a competition in Louisiana.

Feeling upset, Cerio took to Twitter on April 10 to urge individuals to stop circulating and tagging her in the videos. Following the injury, there were suggestions for her to retire from the sport. Witnessing her knees and legs bent in an unnatural manner was distressing for Cerio, and she expressed, “My pain is not your entertainment,” before setting her Twitter account to private.

Her coach revealed that she suffered ligament tears and dislocated knees during the incident. A 2.5-hour surgery was performed successfully, though recovery will be lengthy. Knee dislocations, which often accompany damage to other knee components, are infrequent and excruciating, typically stemming from car accidents, severe falls, or sports mishaps.

Reflecting on the challenging night of her injury, Cerio, at the age of 22 and with a wedding planned in two months, is anticipated to make a full recovery.

In an Instagram post, Cerio shared how gymnastics instilled qualities of hard work, humility, integrity, and dedication in her, presenting obstacles that taught her to surmount adversities. The Auburn Tigers Website discloses Cerio’s employment acceptance as an analysis engineer at Boeing in Seattle.

Named the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in March, Cerio’s resilience and accomplishments are testament to her strength and determination.
