Kansas’ quest for a 15th consecutive Big 12 title suffered a setback this week. Following a loss to Kentucky, the Jayhawks were defeated by Texas with a score of 73-63. Bill Self and his team entered Saturday’s game trailing four other teams in the conference, part of a cluster of six programs within 1.5 games.

Noted college basketball writer Myron Medcalf expressed doubt over whether Kansas has ever looked this vulnerable under Bill Self’s leadership. With a record of 6-5 as of December 18, the Jayhawks’ prowess at Allen Fieldhouse remains a constant. Despite this, they have five more challenging games ahead. While it seems likely that they will navigate their way through the schedule to contend for the Big 12 title, Medcalf is not fully convinced they will claim it outright.

On the other hand, basketball insider Jeff Borzello, while acknowledging Kansas’ struggles, remains loyal to the Jayhawks. He recognizes that they are not currently a top-tier team in college basketball. Borzello is uncertain about which team will emerge victorious in the Big 12, but emphasizes the importance of teams staying confident and pushing forward despite setbacks.

College basketball writer John Gasaway predicts that Iowa State, Baylor, and Kansas State will share the Big 12 title with 11-7 records. In terms of performance, the Cyclones and Bears are looking strong. However, it is Kansas City that may ultimately prevail despite a rocky start to the season. Bruce Weber’s team at ISU has shown resilience and determination.
