Marcel Hirscher showed his dominance in the slalom event on Tuesday, securing a significant lead in the last World Cup race before the world championship. Despite facing defeat in the previous two races, Marcel was cheered on by a crowd of 40,000 fans. A seven-time overall champion in Austria, Marcel established a lead of nearly a second in the first run and extended it by two-tenths in the second run, resulting in a substantial victory. His lead of 1.21 seconds over the second-place finisher, Alexis Pinturault representing France, was impressive.
The third-place finisher, Daniel Yule of Switzerland, trailed behind the runner-up by 1.60 seconds. In his post-race statement, Yule expressed satisfaction with his performance, meeting the high expectations set by his fans and enjoying skiing alongside them. This victory marked his 10th win of the season and his 68th career win overall.
Clement Noel, another French skier, had previously bested Hirscher twice in his career, winning the last two slaloms. However, he faltered in this race, straddling a gate in the first run and failing to finish. Henrik of Norway, last year’s second runner-up, also struggled and did not complete the course, earning low points. Hirscher’s win in this race marked his 12th victory in World Cup Slalom out of the 16 races he has competed in.
