Russian figure skater Mikhail Kolyada is making great progress by clinching the title and surpassing the defending champion in the short program competition. The recent event on Thursday saw France secure victory after 87 years. Kolyada, a former bronze medalist in 2017 and 2018, showcased his dedication and passion for the sport, earning a gold medal and bringing pride to his country.

Kolyada emphasized the importance of staying focused and avoiding getting too emotional before the free skate. His strategic approach paid off as he landed a triple axel, securing the lead with 91.84 points and leaving Javier Fernandez in third place. Fernandez, considering retirement, aims to shift his focus to commercial ice shows.

In the pairs competition, Vanessa James and Morgan Cipres claimed victory over the Russian duo Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov, who were two-time defending champions. The French pair’s remarkable performance outshone their rivals and earned them the gold medal, a notable achievement against seasoned competitors.

The French skaters displayed exceptional skills and stood out among their Russian opponents. Defeating the six-time defending champions marked a significant milestone for the young pair in their competitive journey.
