Larry Weinberg was instrumental in establishing the Trail Blazers as an NBA expansion team in 1970, helping to grow the franchise to a value of $3.7 million. His legacy as a successful real estate developer and a veteran of World War II added to his remarkable achievements.

Aside from his business ventures, Larry Weinberg was known for his advocacy for Israel and his involvement in politics. In 1988, he made headlines by selling the team to Paul Allen for $70 million, sparking discussions within the sports community.

Following his passing, the Trail Blazers expressed their sadness on Twitter, stating that they were “saddened to hear of the passing of our original owner.” Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden also paid tribute to Weinberg, describing him as “a true mensch” and expressing his sorrow over the loss.
