Serena Williams kicked off her Australian Open journey on a high note by securing a solid victory in straight sets against Britain’s Katie Boulter at the Hopman Cup. This win marked the end of Williams’ unbeaten singles streak at the tournament. In a composed display, Williams sealed a 6-1, 7-6 (2) triumph over Boulter in 78 minutes, leveling the score between the United States and Britain in Group B.

Despite Britain’s previous win in the tie, courtesy of strong performances by Boulter and Cameron Norrie in mixed doubles, Williams is determined to clinch her third Hopman Cup title. The United States faced elimination after losing to Greece and Switzerland, led by Roger Federer.

Switzerland stands a good chance of reaching the final with a match against Greece. Meanwhile, the hosts Australia and favorites Germany are gearing up for a crucial clash in Group A action on Friday.

Returning to her first tournament since the U.S. Open Final in September, Williams aims to secure her 24th Grand Slam singles title in Melbourne. Reflecting on her matches, Williams commented, “It was definitely good to play three singles matches here, and the mixed doubles.”Her daughter, Alexis Olympia, was in attendance as Williams displayed her trademark forehand winners to dominate the match against Boulter.

Despite a slow start against opponents Maria Sakkari and Belinda Bencic, Williams swiftly seized control in the first set against Boulter, breaking the British player early in the second set.
