Here are three key takeaways from Chelsea’s recent 0-0 draw with Southampton at Stamford Bridge. It’s clear that Chelsea lacked their usual impact against the Saints. It has been about a month since Chelsea’s impressive performance against Manchester City, where they last showed a strong impact on the game. Unfortunately, that impact was missing once again as Southampton held them to a draw on Wednesday.

Alvaro Morata returned to the starting lineup in place of the injured Olivier Giroud, but despite putting in a more energetic display, he still lacked conviction in front of goal. His only notable chance was ruled offside in the second half.

Chelsea started brightly, moving the ball well as Maurizio Sarri likes, but Southampton, under Ralph Hasenhuttl, were well-prepared. They limited Chelsea’s attacking opportunities effectively, causing the home side to struggle.

David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger stood out with their passing, particularly Luiz whose clever pass set up Eden Hazard for a chance on goal. Gunn was kept busy and prevented Chelsea from finding the breakthrough they needed.

Chelsea have only managed to score 11 goals in their last 10 games across all competitions since their last goalless draw at home to Everton on Nov. 11, with Morata’s missed chance against Gunn being one of the missed opportunities for the team.
