In a recent interview with ESPN, Jon Jones emphasized that he is currently in a much better place in his life. He discussed the significant changes he has made, including spending weeks in rehab and a trauma facility over the summer. This marked a rare moment of honesty from the former UFC light heavyweight champion as he returned from a suspension to face Alexander Gustafsson in a title fight in Los Angeles.

Throughout his turbulent career, Jones has been scrutinized and has become self-aware of how he is perceived by the public. This is putting it mildly. Daniel Cormier and Rashad Evans have criticized Jones, calling him fake and stirring up social media with negative commentary about his character.

However, it’s important to separate the public image of Jones from his flawed humanity, which can trouble fans each time he stumbles and falls, despite his assurances that his issues are behind him.

Yet, Jones’ troubles have a way of resurfacing. He has a history of legal issues, including a DUI in 2012 and a hit-and-run incident in 2015 where drugs were found in his car after he reportedly hit a pregnant woman. Additionally, he has faced suspensions for using performance-enhancing drugs in 2016 and 2017.
