Recently, Stuhec made a remarkable return to the ski slopes after facing a setback last year when she had to forego her Olympic dreams at Pyeongchang. Despite this, she kicked off the season by clinching a gold medal in the downhill event at the world championships and securing the season-long World Cup downhill title. Stuhec, recovering from a two-month knee injury, hastily prepared for a comeback, expressing her eagerness to ski in 2017.
She made a decisive move on December 31st, indicating her determination to qualify for the Olympics. Though lacking the confidence from a lack of training, she relied solely on her knee’s strength. The Slovenian skier promptly shifted her focus to the current season, and her perseverance has now paid off with a recent victory.
Marking her comeback, Stuhec secured a World Cup win in the downhill event on Tuesday, her first victory post-injury. An anterior cruciate ligament tear in her left knee sidelined her for the entire previous season, sustained during a training crash on the glacier in Pitztal, Austria.
While her performance on Tuesday was not flawless, Stuhec dominated the Saslong course, the venue hosting women’s World Cup races for the first time. Additionally, a super-G race is set for Wednesday on the Saslong, originally planned for Val d’Isere but moved to Val Gardena due to snow conditions.
