Olympic Champion Sandro Viletta has announced his retirement from skiing due to persistent injuries. The 32-year-old Swiss racer expressed that he no longer has the confidence to continue skiing, especially after suffering two knee ligament ruptures in the past two years.
Viletta gained recognition for winning the Olympic super-combined event at the 2014 Sochi Games, where he surpassed Ivica Kostelic. Despite initially trailing in 14th place after the downhill, he made a remarkable comeback during the slalom run to clinch the gold medal.
Additionally, Viletta achieved success in the World Cup circuit by winning a super-G event in Beaver Creek, Colorado, in 2011. However, his career was plagued by setbacks, primarily due to back injuries that hindered his performance and led to his eventual retirement. His last race took place two years ago in Val Gardena, Italy, where he sustained a crash.
