Long Island’s own Iaquinta claimed a decisive win over Kevin Lee on Saturday in a five-round unanimous decision. The intense 155-pound contest headlined a UFC Fight Night event in Milwaukee, marking the final broadcast deal with Fox.
The judges unanimously scored the fight 49-46, 48-47, and 48-47 in favor of Iaquinta, with ESPN also giving him a 48-47 score. This win adds to Iaquinta’s successful year, notably accepting a lightweight title fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov on just 24 hours’ notice back in April at UFC 223.
Although Iaquinta faced tough rounds, he managed to go the distance and is now looking ahead to training specifically for a potential rematch with Nurmagomedov. Confident in his abilities, Iaquinta believes he can defeat any lightweight contender with the right preparation and mindset.
Iaquinta also called out Conor McGregor, who challenged Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title in October but was later submitted in the fourth round. Iaquinta made it clear that he stands in the way of any potential McGregor rematch, emphasizing that McGregor would need to face him first for a chance at redemption.
