After winning a gold medal at the Olympics, Cassie Sharpe’s influence reached new heights. From being mentioned in a tweet by Ryan Reynolds to having kids dress up as her for Halloween and her face on socks gifted to the prime minister, these unusual occurrences signify her Olympic success.
Sharpe clinched victory in the halfpipe skiing event in South Korea with impressive jumps that captivated her home country of Canada. She presented Prime Minister Justin Trudeau with custom socks featuring his face during a special meeting at Parliament Hill, joined by fellow Olympic medalists in May. The idea was sparked when she stumbled upon socks adorned with Trudeau’s image at a Vancouver souvenir shop, prompting her to wear them for the occasion.
“I mentioned it to a friend, and she suggested I get socks with my face on and gift them to him. So, I handed the prime minister socks with my face on them,” Sharpe shared with a chuckle during a phone interview with The Canadian Press. Trudeau jokingly noted that people often give him gifts bearing his likeness, leading Sharpe to reveal her unique socks.
This trip to the nation’s capital was a standout moment for Sharpe, who enjoyed a well-deserved summer break following intense training for her inaugural Olympic appearance. She took three months off to visit Mexico, Disney World, and Japan, rejuvenating herself. As she returns to the Colorado Mountains, Sharpe is prepared to defend her crucial world cup title at the upcoming event in Copper Mountain. Sharpe topped the qualification round on Wednesday with an impressive score of 93.75 points, setting the stage for the weekend competition.
