On Saturday night, the ACC conference championship and Big Ten games came to an end, and 13 members of the College Football Playoff selection committee gathered at “Selection Central” after watching the games to deliberate and vote.

The committee engaged in discussions late into the night, faced with a challenging decision for the No. 4 spot in the playoffs. Notre Dame at No. 3, Clemson at No. 2, and Alabama at No. 1 have solidified their positions, leaving the committee to consider Georgia (SEC runner-up), Oklahoma (Big 12 champion), and Ohio State (Big Ten champion) for the final spot.

Additionally, the committee must decide on which team to award the fourth spot, with public interest in their decision-making process. People are eager to see how the new committee members prioritize conference championship games.Committee chair Rob Mullens noted that while all teams are closely ranked, factors like similar opponents, head-to-head results, and conference championships are crucial in the decision-making process.

Georgia may face scrutiny due to its schedule strength, with non-conference games against Middle Tennessee, Austin Peay, and UMass, and the absence of a conference championship game. In the past, teams like Alabama in 2017 and Ohio State have made the top four without winning their divisions.
