Green Bay Packers Dismiss Head Coach Mike McCarthy

Mike McCarthy’s nearly 13-year term as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers came to an end on Sunday. The Packers decided to let go of McCarthy after a disappointing 20-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The team’s offensive coordinator, Joe Philbin, will serve as the interim coach.

In a statement, Mike Murphy, the president and CEO of the Packers, said, “The 2018 season has not met the expectations and standards of the Green Bay Packers.” The Packers started the season with high hopes for the Super Bowl but currently hold a 4-7-1 record.

Throughout his career, McCarthy achieved a record of 125-77-2. He guided the team to victory in Super Bowl XLV in 2010 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. McCarthy becomes the second coach to be relieved of duties this year, following the Cleveland Browns’ decision to fire Hue Jackson in October.
