# Sergio Garcia takes the lead at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in Sun City

On the first day of the European Tour’s Nedbank Golf Challenge in Sun City, Sergio Garcia surged ahead by four shots with a flawless opening round score of 64. The Spaniard, a two-time winner of the event, showcased his skill by hitting eight birdies without any bogeys at the Gary Player Country Club.

Sharing the second spot at four under are Charl Schwartzel from South Africa, along with Frenchman Mike Lorenzo-Vera and Finn Mikko Korhonen. Additionally, a group of six players sit at three under, including South African Louis Oosthuizen.

Further behind, trailing by five shots, are Andy Sullivan and Matt Wallace from England, France’s Benjamin Hebert, Wu Ashun from China, and Australia’s Jason Scrivener. Garcia, who clinched the Andalucia Valderrama Masters last month, is aiming for a third win in the tournament after claiming victory in 2001 and 2003.

His opening round score of 64 marks his lowest start of the current season and matches the largest first-round lead on the tour this year. Garcia expressed his satisfaction with his performance, crediting his precise ball-rolling and successful putts. He also noted the challenging wind conditions and his accurate adjustments that led to his excellent round.
