Reports indicate that the anticipated middleweight bout between the up-and-coming Paulo Costa and former title contender Yoel Romero has been canceled once again. The event was set to take place on January 19th in Brooklyn, New York, with Costa having to pull out due to injuries.
Previously, Costa and Romero were slated to face off at UFC 230 on November 3rd at Madison Square Garden in New York City. However, due to Costa’s injuries, the match was postponed, as Romero was also unable to compete due to his own injury. It’s now suggested that Costa aims to return in March for a matchup against Romero.
Romero, on the other hand, is expected to be on the Brooklyn card and will be fighting against Anderson Silva. UFC is reportedly deliberating on the next steps for these two fighters. Romero, a former two-time title challenger, currently holds a 9-2 record in the UFC, with his last fight being at UFC 225 in June, where he lost a decision to the current champion Robert Whittaker in a closely contested bout.
Costa boasts a flawless 12-0 professional record, including a perfect 4-0 record in the UFC. His most recent fight took place at UFC 226 in July, where he defeated Uriah Hall in the second round via TKO. Fans are eagerly awaiting a new schedule for the Costa-Romero fight.
