West Ham striker Javier Chicharito Hernandez has revealed that he is contemplating retirement from playing for his national team, Mexico. As Mexico’s leading goal scorer, Hernandez expressed his thoughts on the matter in an interview, acknowledging the pressure and expectations placed on him by the public. Throughout his international career, he has often considered leaving the Mexican team.
Following the World Cup, Hernandez has been absent from the national squad due to a lingering illness, preventing his selection for a friendly match in October. While he did not elaborate on the reasons behind his potential retirement, reports suggest that disagreements over image rights with the Mexican football federation have led to Europe-based players being left out of the squad since 2018.
Interim manager Ricardo Tuca Ferretti recently emphasized the importance of building for the future when selecting the team, indicating that Hernandez has now recovered from his illness and may participate in upcoming matches against Argentina on November 16th and November 20th. The final squad announcement is expected on Thursday, with several of Mexico’s Europe-based players also missing from the line-ups for previous matches in September and October.
