Daniel Cormier, the current UFC heavyweight and lightweight champion, recently stated that he has no desire to have a rematch with Jon Jones for the third time. This decision came before his eventual retirement. Over the weekend at UFC 230, Cormier successfully defended his heavyweight belt by defeating Derrick Lewis.
Cormier expressed his intention to continue fighting until the age of 40 before retiring. He plans to retire around his 40th birthday in March 2019 and hopes to have a final match against WWE superstar Brock Lesnar. In his statement, Cormier made it clear that he is not interested in another fight with Jones during his career. The rivalry between Jones and Cormier is well-known in the MMA world.
Jones has won both of their previous encounters, including a victory by unanimous decision at UFC 182 in 2015. Following that fight, Jones was stripped of his title due to legal issues. Cormier stepped in to replace him and went on to defeat Anthony Johnson for the belt.
Jones also mentioned recently that he has no interest in facing Cormier again. He stated that he has already defeated Cormier twice and his focus is on achieving greatness in the sport rather than individual rivalries. Jones believes that if Cormier wants to be considered one of the greatest, he would have to fight him again, but Cormier seems to have no interest in proving himself by facing Jones for a third time.
