Devin Booker undergoes surgery on right hand in LA

Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker underwent surgery on an injured ligament in his right hand. The injury, which had been bothering him since many parts of the season, was treated through a medical procedure which is known to be a minor one, a source informed ESPN. It was the swelling in the hand which prompted the decision. Booker got operated in LA. The Suns will provide further information about his health condition in the coming days.

The news of him undergoing surgery was first reported by Phoenix radio station 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro.  According to Gambadoro, Booker will most likely miss out at least four weeks of the training camp.

Booker signed a five-year contract extension worth $158 million with the Suns in July. He has been rapidly developed into the cornerstone star of the Suns and the hope of the franchise to lead it out of the lottery. Booker has an average of 24.9 points, 4.5 rebounds as well as 4.7 assists per game in his third season of the NBA. He has been a decorated draft pick of the general manager Ryan McDonough, acquired as a freshman out of Kentucky who went down to No. 13 in the 2015 draft of NBA.

Booker has received three lottery picks in the last two drafts, which includes this year’s No. 1 overall pick, center Deandre Ayton, the number 10 pick Mikal Bridges and the number 4 overall pick of 2017 draft, Josh Jackson.

The Suns will begin a four-day training camp starting September 25 in Flagstaff and then will be holding an open practice on September 29 in Phoenix. Later, on October 1 the preseason schedule of the Suns will be starting against the Sacramento Kings. The Suns have a regular-season opener on October 17 against the Dallas Mavericks.
