Clay Guida, a seasoned fighter in the UFC, has decided to drop the assault case he filed against Nate Diaz. This decision eliminates a legal matter for one of the main attractions of UFC 230.Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Shaun Hampton stated today that Guida has opted not to pursue the misdemeanor battery complaint against Diaz. This action effectively closes the case. Both Guida, 36, and Diaz, 33, have not provided comments on this recent development.
Guida’s manager, John Fosco, previously mentioned that both MMAjunkie and Diaz pushed Guida from behind and into a metal guardrail during the Combat Americans: Mexico vs. the USA event in May. Guida sustained a bloodied lip and reported the incident to the police at the scene.
Guida’s training partner, Tyler Diamond, also claimed that Diaz slapped him when he tried to intervene between the two fighters. Detectives handling the case took statements from all parties involved to determine if there was enough evidence for an arrest. With Guida choosing not to pursue charges, the criminal investigation against him has been closed.
Prior to this incident, Guida had been eager for a rematch with Diaz, whom he defeated in 2009. Guida returned to the Octagon less than a month ago and was submitted by Charles Oliveira in the first round of their lightweight bout.
