The St. Louis Cardinals have decided to place their outfielder Marcell Ozuna on the ten-day disabled list due to a right shoulder issue. In response, the team has brought back Yairo Munoz from the disabled list and also activated Matt Adams after he went through a waiver process.
Ozuna, who is 27 years old, has been dealing with inflammation in his right shoulder, affecting his arm strength during the season. To address this, he received a cortisone injection on Wednesday. Despite the injury, he had been playing consistently for the Cardinals, participating in 123 games and hitting .279 with 16 home runs and 69 RBIs. Ozuna hit his sixteenth home run of the season on Wednesday and will be eligible to return from the disabled list on September 1.
Previously, Ozuna had mentioned to reporters that he struggled with tendinitis in his shoulder and had to be cautious when throwing at full force.
On the other hand, Munoz, who is 23 years old, is back with the team after recovering from a right wrist sprain that sidelined him for 11 games since August 10. Munoz had a productive season playing multiple positions for the Cardinals, batting .284 with six home runs and 31 RBIs. Before rejoining the team, he played two games on an injury rehab assignment in Springfield (AA).
As for Adams, 29, he was recently released from waiver claims by the Washington Nationals. Adams had a .257 batting average with 18 home runs and 48 RBIs for the Nationals before joining the Cardinals.
Both Adams and Munoz have been assigned uniform numbers and are set to play in the upcoming games for the Cardinals.
