Reports suggest that during this meeting, the football board may recommend suspending Meyer when the issue is brought to university president Michael V. Drake. It is possible that a timeline for implementing the recommended suspension will be discussed, potentially requiring Meyer to serve the punishment within two weeks as he remains on administrative leave.
Meyer is under investigation for his handling of allegations of domestic abuse against former assistant coach Zach Smith. The university confirmed that findings were presented to the board on Monday. Following a public session on Wednesday, the board will convene privately to decide on the next course of action.
Monday’s briefing was intended to ensure that board members are adequately informed for the upcoming meeting on Wednesday, as stated by Ohio State spokesperson Emily Caldwell via email. A timeline for reaching a final decision has not been set, causing uncertainty as the team prepares for the upcoming 2018 season starting on September 1, 2018. Trustees retained an external law firm and allocated approximately $500,000 for the investigation, which has lasted for around two weeks.
Meyer has stated that he believes he appropriately handled the allegations once he became aware of them.
