Lions Reportedly Add Cornerback Sterling Moore to Their Roster

Lions have reportedly signed cornerback Sterling Moore

The Detroit Lions have strengthened their secondary by signing cornerback Sterling Moore to a one-year deal. This move was confirmed by the player’s agent, David Canter, in a post on Twitter.

At 28 years old, Moore has a history with Lions coach Matt Patricia from his time with the New England Patriots. Although he went undrafted from SMU in 2011 and had a brief stint in Oakland, he found success when the Patriots signed him to their practice squad. Moore played in 8 games in 2012 under Patricia’s defensive guidance before being released. The Lions brought him on board in February, making him their latest acquisition.

Moore has moved between teams over the past five years, playing for Dallas, Tampa, and most recently, New Orleans. With 75 games under his belt, his standout season was in 2016 with the Saints, where he recorded 56 tackles, 13 passes defended, and two interceptions.

As Moore vies for a spot on the Lions roster in the upcoming weeks, there is tough competition with Darius Slay secured at one cornerback position. DeShawn Shead, Teez Tabor, and Nevin Lawson are contending for another starting role, while Quandre Diggs and Jamal Agnew are in the mix for the slot position.

Despite not yet officially announced by the Lions, Moore’s addition brings intrigue, given the team’s depth at cornerback this season. However, his experience could prove valuable to the squad.
