Buffalo Bills’ AJ McCarron sustained a hairline fracture on his right collarbone during the preseason match against the Cleveland Browns on Friday, according to a report by Buffalo News. The experienced quarterback participated in the game and managed to complete 3 out of 6 passes for twelve yards. Despite being sacked once in the first quarter, he continued playing until early in the second quarter.
During the game on Friday with McCarron as quarterback in four offensive possessions, the Bills’ first-team offense only gained a total of 7 yards and failed to secure a first down. Bills coach Sean McDermott mentioned, “All I know right now is that he hurt his right shoulder. He’ll have some more tests when we get back.”
First-round rookie Josh Allen took over for McCarron and guided the Bills’ first-team offense to an 80-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Allen played for three possessions, completing 9 out of 13 passes for 60 yards, along with a 2-yard touchdown pass to Rod Streater. Nathan Peterman later replaced Allen in the third quarter. The Buffalo Bills claimed victory in the game with a score of 19-17.
The Bills are set to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook for the Super Bowl. Throughout their training camp and preseason, the Bills have rotated their quarterbacks as part of a 3-way competition for the starting position. Peterman started in the preseason opener before being replaced by McCarron, who completed 7 of 10 passes for 116 yards. McCarron and Peterman have both received equal first-team snaps during practice sessions.
McCarron signed a two-year contract worth $10 million with the Bills in March this year after spending four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.
