As the NBA gears up for its upcoming second season, it has opened its doors to prominent franchises like Atlanta Hawks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Brooklyn Nets, and Los Angeles Lakers to join the NBA 2K league. The league will feature a total of 17 NBA teams participating in the inaugural season, with these four new additions. The season is set to run from May to August 25th, with an expansion cost of $750,000 for the second season, matching the first season’s cost.

Brendan Donohue, Managing Director of NBA 2K League, expressed enthusiasm about welcoming these top-tier organizations and their extensive fan bases to the league’s second season. This move is not only a significant moment for the league but also for the entire NBA 2K community. Donohue noted the innovative and global appeal of these teams, making them valuable additions to the season and providing new opportunities for players, coaches, and support staff.

The latest basketball simulator, NBA 2K19, is scheduled for global release on September 11th. The NBA 2K league will hold its expansion draft on September 28th, expanding the number of teams to 21. Rare Design, a creative firm from Mississippi, has developed initial sister brands for the four expansion franchises, which will manage the creation and associated costs of their brands. Rare Design has previously worked on branding for the Timberwolves in 2017 and Hawks in 2015.

The NBA 2K league has seen an average of 10,500 concurrent viewers per broadcast on Twitch since July 13th. The league was first announced in February 2017.
