Overall, the deal seems fair. Vesey, who attracted attention with “#VeseyWatch,” has yet to fully live up to the hype that surrounded him as an unsigned college free agent.
Despite not meeting the high expectations set by his 3rd round draft position by Nashville in 2012, Vesey’s performance has been steady. In the 2017-18 season, the 23-year-old forward scored 17 goals and 28 points in 79 games, numbers similar to the previous season. With limited ice time opportunities, averaging 14:20 per game, there is still potential for him to increase his scoring output.
Vesey now has the chance to prove his worth and silence the critics who doubt his abilities moving forward with the New York Rangers.
