After their victory against the Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII, the Seattle Seahawks appeared to have a promising lineup of young players poised for more success. However, as the NFL evolves rapidly, the Seahawks now have only six starters remaining out of the 22 players who started in the 2014 Super Bowl.
Recently, Kam Chancellor announced his retirement due to a neck injury, becoming the latest starter to depart the team, following the footsteps of Michael Bennett, Cliff Avril, Chris Clemons, Clinton McDonald, Richard Sherman, and Walter Thurmond. The current core starters include Bobby Wagner, K.J. Wright, Byron Maxwell, and Earl Thomas, with Maxwell returning to the team this year after stints with the Eagles and Dolphins post-Super Bowl XLVIII.
The offensive lineup has seen significant turnover, with only Doug Baldwin and Russell Wilson remaining from the Super Bowl XLVIII squad. Players like Zach Miller, Marshawn Lynch, Russell Okung, Golden Tate, Max Unger, James Carpenter, J.R. Sweezy, and Alvin Bailey have all moved on from the team.
In addition to the starters, backups like Tarvaris Jackson, Robert Turbin, Christine Michael, Sidney Rice, Jermaine Kearse, Luke Wilson, Ricardo Lockette, Michael Robinson, and Derrick Coleman have also left the Seahawks. Notable players who didn’t start the Super Bowl, such as Tony McDaniel, Brandon Mebane, Bruce Irvin, and Malcolm Smith, are also no longer with the team.
Despite these changes, the Seahawks have managed to remain competitive and even made a Super Bowl appearance just a year after their championship win, demonstrating resilience in the face of player transitions.
