JJ Hickson, a former NBA player, was taken into custody on Friday for an armed robbery charge and is currently being held at the Coweta County Jail in Georgia without bail, awaiting trial. Jimmy Yarbrough, a spokesperson for the Coweta Sheriff’s Department, stated that the 29-year-old Hickson was arrested in connection with a home invasion in Senoia, Georgia on Friday night, where items were stolen, and an individual was assaulted.
While two suspects were involved in the crime, Hickson is the sole individual currently facing charges.
Captain John Kennedy provided details on the incident, mentioning, “The victim sustained significant injuries and had personal belongings taken from the residence. Through canvassing the area, we were able to identify a suspect and a vehicle, leading to the apprehension of a suspect.”
Hickson began his basketball journey in Marietta’s high school team before advancing to play at NC State. He was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers as the 19th pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, subsequently playing for the Cavaliers, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, Washington Wizards, and Denver Nuggets over his eight-year NBA career.
His standout season was with the Trail Blazers in 2012-2013, where he averaged a double-double with 12.7 points and 10.4 rebounds. Throughout his career spanning 534 games, he averaged 9.5 points and 6.8 rebounds, with his last NBA appearance during the 2015-16 season.
Hickson’s most recent basketball stint was with the Champville team in the Lebanese Basketball League last season. Throughout his basketball career, he earned over $26 million, making his current circumstances following the arrest quite a contrast.
