Earl Thomas to Skip Seahawks Minicamp Due to Contract Uncertainty

Earl Thomas will not join Seahawks minicamp this season

Earl Thomas, the standout safety for the Seattle Seahawks, has stated that he will not be participating in the team’s minicamp until he receives clarity on his contract situation. Thomas took to Twitter to express his desire to remain with the Seahawks for his entire career but emphasized the need for assurance regarding his future with the team.

Citing his contributions over the past eight years, Thomas asserted that he deserves prompt resolution of his contract concerns. He hinted that he may sit out the Pro Bowl if a new deal is not reached before the event or the upcoming season. Previously, Thomas opted out of the Seahawks’ voluntary OTAs held last month, risking potential fines as a result.

According to team guidelines, Thomas could face fines for missing the mandatory minicamp, although the decision to enforce penalties rests with the Seahawks. Thomas expressed hope that his teammates will understand his stance and reiterated his commitment to improving his skills and contributing to the team’s success.

Players absent from the minicamp can incur fines up to $14,070 for the first day, $28,150 for the second day, and $42,215 for the third day, amounting to a total of $84,435 for the duration of the camp. The Seahawks’ three-day minicamp is scheduled to commence next Tuesday as Thomas continues to prioritize his development and dedication to enhancing the team’s performance.

While several key players have departed the team, including Richard Sherman and Michael Bennett, Thomas and Bobby Wagner remain integral parts of the Seahawks’ roster and are regarded as cornerstone players amid a period of transition for the franchise.
