The Cleveland Browns’ offseason process continued until Friday with a trade that will provide the Arizona Cardinals with a needed cornerback. As per Ian Rapoport from the NFL Network, the Cleveland has reportedly decided to trade its cornerback Jamar Taylor to the Cardinals in exchange for 2020 sixth-round pick of Arizona. Rapoport further added that Taylor had restructured his deal to make it easy for the Cardinals in the trade work.
Before the trade, Taylor was initially scheduled to get $4.5 million in the year 2018, and he is under the contract through the year 2020. Taylor, 27, was the Miami Dolphins’ second-round pick in the year 2013 and has spent three seasons of his career in Miami before the Browns selected him in a draft-day trade in the year 2016. He did not do that well in Miami but did emerge as a viable cornerback with the Browns.
The Browns were tying trade Taylor since the time they acquired Denzel Ward with the fourth-overall pick in 2018’s draft.
Taylor may be able to fill the place for the Cardinals, who have required a cornerback since they cut defensive back Tyrann Mathieu and to also play opposite Patrick Peterson as a reliable partner. Taylor joins in a secondary group which has players such as Christian Campbell, Marcus Williams, Brandon Williams, Bene Benwikere and some others. It is not known yet on who will emerge as the Cardinals’ second starting cornerback.
As per the report, Bashaud Breeland, the free agent cornerback met the Cardinals on Thursday. So it seems like more of help could arrive for the Cardinals, although Rapoport adds that Breeland may sign a deal with the Colts.
Notably, Taylor’s trade would make it the sixth player who has been traded by the new general manager of the team, John Dorsey since the time he took over the Cardinals in December.
