You can now forget about Mookie Betts, Bryce Harper, Max Scherzer and Mike Trout as the best baseball player currently in the world stand to be Los Angeles rookie Shohei Ohtani. This is not what we are saying by ourself. That is what Logan Morrison, Minnesota Twins first baseman said after losing the game 2-1 to the Angles on Sunday.
For the very first time, Morrison was seen praising the Ohtani after the game, Maria I. Guardado from MLB.com said.
Morrison even went on to mentioning Trout by saying, “There’s another guy in that clubhouse who is a really good player. But to me, with what he does on the mound and with the bat, [Ohtani is] probably the best player in the world.”
You can have doubts about Morrison having such a feeling if you want but there are reasons for him to think this way. Morrison saw Ohtani play at his best on Sunday. Ohtani had given up three hits over 6 1/3 innings against the Twins. He walked down two and struck out eleven during the outing. While doing this, he set a record for the Angels.
Morrison is one of the few Twins to have noticed Ohtani play so well. As Morrison said, still only half of Ohtani’s value comes out in front of the world, where he holds a 3.58 ERA in six starts. He has been an excellent player at the plate, hitting .348/.392/.652, including five home runs, over the 74 plate appearances he has had.
Early on, the Twins managed two short singles but Ohtani struck 9 of 12 batters in the first four innings.
After his club looking upon Ohtani for the very first time, Minnesota manager, Paul Molitor said, He’s got pitches. He could get the breaking ball over, and he got guys to chase it.”
