Sam Allardyce has denied the speculations regarding Wayne Rooney being asked to leave Everton. However, the ex-England captain cannot be given any assurances over the tenure of his playing time at the Goodison Park. It was on Friday that Rooney left the Everton’s Finch Farm complex while going through the training. But it is believed that he is still having the pain from the knee injury that has kept him away from the draw with Southampton last weekend. This week, Rooney has not trained.
Allardyce previously confirmed that talks related to negotiations had been carried out to move to DC United for Rooney, who still has one more year in the deal in addition to a 12-month option that can be permitted by the club. Rooney is now looking for a clarification from the Everton hierarchy for the manager’s situation and his future, before he plans on the next step, but will prefer to remain in his boyhood club.
Allardyce clearly stated that his outlook on the players who wish to move did not just apply to Rooney. He said, “Wayne is a special player but if any player wants to leave they can, in my opinion. Whether they can or can’t is another matter. The headline isn’t: ‘Sam says Wayne Rooney can leave if he wants to.’ If any player wants to leave they can go.”
Rooney who is known as Everton’s leading goalscorer for this season has become frustrated due to the reduced role he has under Allardyce. However, the ex-England manager said that no player could be given guaranteed minutes in the game regardless of whoever is in charge. He added that if any player does not play well then you cannot select them and if they do play well then they for sure stay in the team. This is a simple rule, and it is up to them on how they put up their game together, he further said.
