Protesters delay Sacramento Kings-Atlanta Hawks tip off over police shooting an African-American man

A group of protestors in the area around Golden 1 Center in Sacramento prevented many fans from entering inside to watch the Sacramento Kings’ game against the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday night. This further caused a delay in the match proceeds.

Notably, the protest was carried out in response to the recent death of an unarmed 22-year-old African-American man named Stephon Clark who was shot and killed by the Sacramento police on Sunday while he was in his grandparents’ backyard. As per NBA Bay Area, the game’s tip-off was delayed from 7.05 pm PT to 7.23pm PT. However, most of the ticket holders were not able to watch the game as the area was locked down.

As it was earlier reported, Clark was shot several times Sunday night following a foot suit. The authorities said that they were directed to Clark after they received reports of a man who had broken the windows of several cars.
As previously reported, Clark was shot multiple times in his grandmother’s backyard Sunday night following a foot pursuit. Authorities said they were directed to Clark after receiving reports about a man who had broken several car windows. Clark, a father of two, was unarmed at the time.

The statement issued by Sacramento Police Department read that before the shooting, the involved officers saw that the suspect facing them, advanced with his arms extended, holding an object in his hands. It further read that at the time of the shooting, the police officers believed that the suspect was pointing a firearm at them. However, after a search, the scene investigators did not find any firearms, and the only thing they found near the suspect was a mobile phone.

The police department released the video of the tragic incident shortly after which it was reported that members belonging to the Black Lives Matter movement would lead a protest march at the center.
