The new quadrant system has made it quite difficult for mid-majors to bring in the NCAA tournament, it has been stated by Middle Tennessee coach Kermit Davis and Saint Mary’s coach Randy Bennett. As per the report the mid-major teams of both the coaches were rejected on Sunday.
Commenting on this Kermit Davis stated that, the committee sent him a message which informed him that it would be tougher to get an at-large with the new system. He further added “You’ve got to be perfect. We only have a few chances, and they are usually either on the road or a neutral court.”
In the season that Saint Mary’s team had played, a week ago they were in the top 20. Instead of finished the season in seventh and eighth in their league, people will like to see them in Dayton. On the other side, supporting Davis statements, Randy Bennett also stated that the new system had affected them much.
He further stated “Explain to me how the quadrant system is scored? There’s the problem. I don’t know why they do anything. I will tell you that they won’t tell you how they keep score.”
When the Trojans were dropped, that incident amazed Andy Enfield, the USC coach. As per the report, USC ended the Pac-12 with the second position in the season, but the team doomed in the league tournament championship held at Arizona.
Enfield stated that they had 23 RPI and 37 schedule strength. They have been played many games and also won a lot of matches. The authority needs to value that. He felt shocked due to not making the tournament, he further added.
Mike Boynton, State Coach of Oklahoma, has not given any comment in this matter. Even though his team has beaten Kansas for two times and West Virginia, the team didn’t make it to the 68-team field.
