Sean McDonough leaves “Monday Night Football” to return to college football games

Jon Gruden’s acceptance of the Raider’s $100 million offer left a spot open in ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” booth. And now, instead of replacing the analyst, it looks like ESPN will be replacing an entirely new tandem this year.

On Friday, ESPN released a statement announcing that ESPN and Sean McDonough have both agreed mutually to a change which will see McDonough returning back to the primarily calling college football games after two years in the “Monday Night Football” booth as play-by-play voice. ESPN confirmed the news in a press release.

The renowned broadcaster will remain a part of its college basketball and Master show in addition to returning to his previous role on college football broadcasts.

In the statement, McDonough said that over the past two years, as he watched college football on television, he realized how much he missed it. Being the ‘Voice of Monday Night Football’ was one of the great honors of his life, but he is grateful for the opportunity to return to the unique traditions, rivalries, and pageantry of college football and to tell the stories of the participants. He said that he looks forward to reuniting with ESPN’s college football team where he has so many close friends in front of and behind the camera.

As per reports, Joe Tessitore will replace McDonough. However, it is still unknown who will be working along with Tessitore in the booth. The sources informed that Fame quarterback Peyton Manning has decided to not accept ESPN’s offer to be the new analyst for the show “Monday Night Football.” Manning is still to decide if he will run down or accept Fox’s offer to be the announcer for the show “Thursday Night Football.”

On the other hand, ESPN still has some other good picks to choose from like Matt Hasselbeck, Randy Moss, and Louis Riddick. We hope that ESPN end’s up hiring a person who has the capability of providing a good amount of entertainment that Jon Gruden gave us on a weekly basis.
