John Elway to meet with agent who also represents Trevor Sieman, Kirk Cousins & Senior Laulette

The Denver Broncos general manager John Elway has a meeting scheduled with Mike McCartney, the agent who represents quarterbacks Trevor Siemian and Kirk Cousins and Senior Bowl MVP Kyle Lauletta, in the Indianapolis this week. The fact that John Elway has a meeting with not just the players but an agent as well does not necessarily mean it’s a big deal as long as he does not do something illegal and tampering.

Lauletta is the Richmond quarterback who lit up Vance Joseph’s South secondary for 198 yards and three touchdowns on 8 of 12 passing in the college all-star game last month.

An intriguing aspect concerning this situation is that the rules may prevent Elway or McCartney to discuss Cousins by any means. This could lead to the league getting involved to ensure that the topic is avoided in the meeting. However, this is just a speculation at this point in time and it could be difficult for both the sides to truly come to a decision.

At the same time, this should also provide a clear picture with respect to where Siemian stands with the franchise’s next season and further. He has struggled a lot to stay ahead and in 2017, he recorded 2,285 passing yards with 12 touchdowns to 14 interceptions. Siemian has another year left on his four-year $2.3 million rookie contract that is worth $1.9 million.

This upcoming meeting should help both the sides to come to clarity to determine what the Broncos plans to do in the upcoming season to address their quarterback situation. The free agency starts from March 14, with a two-day legal negotiating window preceding it. Elway and McCartney may reinforce or tweak their plan of action during NFL Combine week although executing the plan is still two weeks away.
